Victory in Stalingrad Day

The Battle of Stalingrad began in the summer of 1942. Both the German and Soviet commands considered the city critically important.

In the autumn, the Red Army, during Operation Uranus, successfully surrounded Wehrmacht forces near Stalingrad. The Axis powers failed to break out of the encirclement, and on February 2, 1943 Field Marshal Paulus went against Hitler's orders and surrendered. This victory became one of the most important events of World War II.
